PAS Fear?

I was at a friend's house warming gathering. At the gathering, we spoke about several top issues of the year 2006. Some of these issues such as growing polarisation, poor governance, corruption, rising inflation and a lack of economic direction troubled all of us.

Since she is a journalist, I thought she would be quite concerned about the state of democracy and leadership quality in the country. I told her that perhaps the government and their capitalist partners have sold us out in the recent toll rates hike in Klang Valley. I asked if she would seek to strengthen the opposition voices in the next parliament.

She said that she would rather pay higher toll rates than to vote for Islamism. Apparently the only opposition candidate in her area is from PAS.

Is PAS more fearful than UMNO in the Islamisation process? PAS is more outrageous than dangerous. What about UMNO?

Actually, if I have to pick between the 2, and if I really don't have a choice to abstain (or vote somebody else), I might just pick UMNO.

PAS is economically incompetent, untested for corruption (although there are murmurs of discontent with regards to logging concessions and land alienation etc. in Kelantan), and worse, practices an archaic and chauvinistic Islam which marginalises other communities.

No, PAS is not a better option. While things are very bad, I don't think we want it to get very very bad.

I'm thankful that it's not an option which I face anywhere in the near future.
