Parliamentarians Syed Hood Syed Edros (BN-Parit Sulong) and Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading) suggested that crucifixes in mission schools be removed and church influence over these schools be stopped. These recalcitrants refused to admit their chauvinism and told reporters that they were merely raising public concern.
Yes, BLAME it on the public. Who? If parents are really concerned, they would have not send their children to La Sallian schools. I came from a mission school and am proud to say that no one tried to convert me into christianity throughout my school life.
Syed Hood said the issue was played up in emails and blog-posts by those "who did not understand his intention" (Malaysiakini.com). Yes, BLAME it on the bloggers.
"What I said in the Dewan does not reflect Syed Hood the MP. I, as an individual and politician, always respect other races and religions. I personally don't have any issue with crosses being displayed in mission schools. We have to respect the religion of others to gain their respect for our religion."
Then WHY didn't you explain this to those who came to you with this concern? Tell them to take their children out of the mission schools and send them to the madrasahs. Tell them that mutual respect for all religions is pertinent.
I would like to suggest we take religion out from politics. UMNO, a Malay communal and capitalist party, claiming to champion Islam is chilling. Islam is not racist.

yeah leave religion to the religious experts.
why politicise religion, when u do that, religion gets a bad name when u screw up.
just like terrorism
time to apply for themselves' kalau tak suka, keluar' hehehehe
La Sallian schools might have its Christian influence due to their founding fathers. Although these schools have chapel but at the same time surau is also catered. If argument is on religion, it should be the Taoist or Buddhist that should protest unfairness due to unavailability of prayer room for them.
Anyway, some of government leaders like our DPM or Education Minister have studied at missionary schools and wore cross as their badge on their proud school uniform but still uphold their strong religious ground till other races are crying their religious rights are being surpressed .
Election is coming, playing the racial tone is standard operating procedure to secure the Malay votes, knowing very well the "melayu mudah lupa" is still applicable.
Modus operandi:
1) raised sensitive issues and the hope (which normally turn up expected) the non-malays will react.
2)Then they are seen to be champion of the Malays
3)End results, the non-Malays as well as the marginalised malays are screwed.
4)The winner are those UMNO kingpins and lapdogs MCA, MIC, Gerakan dan lain lain.
For your eyes now: See what happen to the HINDRAF effect, they manage to secure the Malays to hate the Indian and sure win the support for BN.
Seen this every election, but suckers never fail to dissappoint.
Below is the most enlightening article on Islam, expressed and demonstrated by the Prophet (pbuh) that is relevant to this topic. In a nutshell, it's about love, compassion and mutual respect…

FREEDOM OF RELIGIOUS ASSEMBLY AND RELIGIOUS AUTONOMY
Given consent by the constitution, the Jews had the complete freedom to practice their religion. The Jews in Medina at the time of the Prophet had their own school of learning, named Bait-ul-Midras, where they would recite the Torah, worship and educate themselves.
The Prophet emphasized in many letters to his emissaries that religious institutions should not be harmed. Here in a letter addressed to his emissary to the religious leaders of Saint Catherine in Mount Sinai who has sought the protection of the Muslims:
“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them. Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by God! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray. Their churches are declared to be protected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”
As one can see, this Charter consisted of several clauses covering all important aspects of human rights, including such topics as the protection of minorities living under Islamic rule, freedom of worship and movement, freedom to appoint their own judges and to own and maintain their property, exemption from military service, and the right to protection in war.
On another occasion, the Prophet received a delegation of sixty Christians from the region of Najran, then a part of Yemen, at his mosque. When the time for their prayer came, they faced the direction of east and prayed. The Prophet ordered that they be left in their state and not harmed.

Looks like MP Parit Sulong is totally IGNORANT of the teachings of Islam too. According to the hansard, he said, “Nevertheless, I, as a responsible person to my religion, race, and country, I state my views that these statues need to be demolished, these crosses need to be destroyed and church influences in these schools need to be stopped.”
It is alarming... How did these fanatic Islamic thinking come about?
We must get to the root of the problem and start the healing process. How?
ON RELIGIOUS “TOLERANCE”:
Synonyms of the word “tolerance” are broadmindedness, open-mindedness, lenience, acceptance, forbearance, patience; unfortunately with the current low standard of English, the majority may understand it as “tolerate” which has a negative connotation to it, as in put up with, endure, bear… suggest we replace the word “tolerance” with “RESPECT”.
Just what good are these UMNO Baru elected representatives for? Besides creating ethnic tensions, spewing lies and bad faiths? It is high time, whether you are a Malay, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans dll, please ask your relatives and village folks in your kampungs to vote out the evil BN come the next election! Those in the kampungs will listen to you. Let us all work together and we can achieve our mission of throwing out the UMNO/BN regime come the next GE! We must act to achieve the desires of majority Malaysians!
