Dear Mr. Khoo Kay Peng,
I happened across your site while searching the different news papers in Malaysia. In 1971 to 1972, my family spent a wonder year living in Kuantan while my father worked in the Jengka Project Saw Mill.
My father worked with a man named Abdul Aziz Bin Amin and the two of them became friends. When it was time for us to move back to Canada, it was very hard on Aziz (that is what we called him) and my Dad.
Over the years they kept in touch but as with so many long distant relationships, the letter writing slowly stopped. About 8 years ago, by oldest brother surprised my parents with a trip back to Malaysia. It was a wonderful trip for them (of course, many things had changed) but my Dad was unable to track Aziz down. The only thing that he could find out was that he may be living in Kuala Lumpur now.
He is originally from the Malacca area. I tried to find him in the Malaysian on-line phone registry but had no success. My mother passed away on August 4, 2008 and I have been having many long talks with my father (84 years old) remembering the happy times. Many of those times, go back to Malaysia. My older brother was only 16, I was 14 and my twin brothers were 10. We have never forgotten the experience we had there and it often comes up (even after all these years) in family conversations.
My father's name is George Kenneth Smith but was know as Ken Smith. Aziz worked as his assistant in the Mattau at the Jengka Saw Mill. I don't know if you can help me in any way but I know it would give my father immense pleasure to establish communications again with Aziz.
Do you know of any contacts in Malaysia that could help me track Aziz down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a picture of my Mom and Dad in Malaysia. You can imagine that my Dad has changed somewhat in the past 30 odd years and I don't think anyone would recognize him from a current picture.
I Thank you in advance for any help you can offer, Joan Tessier (nee Smith)
Folks, anyone with a good lead please email Joan at bruno.joni@hotmail.com
Joan, hope you will find your dad's old friend soon.

Kay Peng,
With your good rapport with the Star, don't you think you should go one step further by contacting The Star to publish the story? I am sure in no time Aziz would be found once the STAR published the letter!!
Send the letter to The Star. Hope they will publish it.
