PM Abdullah Should Refrain From Using ISA

In his press conference today, PM Abdullah Badawi hinted a possibility of taking strong action against his political opponent Anwar Ibrahim. 'He has become a threat to the economy and (national) security," he said.

And when asked what action the government would take against him, Abdullah refused to reveal his cards, saying: "I will not indicate what plan I will take, what I do will be in the best interests of the people and the country."

I agree with the editorial observation of Malaysiakini: "Using the ISA against Anwar would undoubtedly have severe repercussions but such a move would not come as a surprise after three individuals, including an opposition politician, were nabbed under the draconian law last Friday."

Anwar Ibrahim is not a national threat although his recent political moves have threaten to disintegrate UMNO and BN. Abdullah is besieged by internal and external demands to step down as an indirect results.

Our national security is not synonymous with BN's security. I hope the premier is wise enough not to initiate the use of such draconian act on his hugely popular opponent.

On the contrary, the use of ISA against Anwar will have a negative effect on the state of national security. Abdullah has brushed aside Anwar's threat of taking over the federal government as mere lies and mind games. If so, why would he take the threat of Anwar so seriously until it demands the use of ISA?

His statement here, which borders a threat on Anwar's personal freedom, is worrying and serious.

If Abdullah does not want to go down in history as the one who initiates the downfall of BN and UMNO, he should refrain from using the ISA in the midst of very negative public sentiment towards its use on RPK, Teresa and Tan.

The recent detention of three persons through the use of the ISA provoked unexpectedly strong condemnations by the public and even some members of the BN component parties. The powers-that-be must have been taken aback somewhat by this vehement reaction.

If the powers-that-be had toyed with the idea of using the ISA to neutralise Anwar, the above outcome may have given them pause and stayed their hand.

We can guess that they are probably doing a Hamlet right now - to be or not to be - to ISA Anwar or not to ISA Anwar.

This is hilarious and quite entertaining to non-partisan onlookers.

If they do nothing, Anwar will gleefully continue to shake the stage they are on, so much so they are in danger of falling off. But if they were to put a stop to Anwar's antics by locking him up with the ISA, they could well face the prospect of all hell breaking loose.

One could fall off the chair with laughter thinking about this if not for the fact that it could have serious ramifications for all Malaysians.

Khoo

Now that things have settled down somewhat, do you still stand by what you wrote about the two Chias? How exactly, do they lack integrity?

I see... panic buttons pressed. These are calls made by a desperate man who's cornered. To me, it looks very much like he knows Anwar HAS the numbers.

I am sure hell breaks lose when DSAI goes into ISA. Badawi has to tread very carefully...

Kawan-kawan,
Apabila ISA dan/atau darurat digunakan, ini menandakan pemerintah berharap agar rakyat akan keTAKUTan.

Kawan-kawan,
Jangan kita TAKUT, marilah kita BerHARTAL menentang ISA!!!

I see no reason, why AAB won't use ISA to arrest DSAI!! The numbers of MP to crossover is not important anymore!! Any date, any time, any numbers that PR announced is useless at this point of time!! AAB will take action...ISA!! To protect his own position, he isn't refused to step down but not forced by any party (included UMNO, BN and PR) he doesn't want his name to be the most lousier PM in BUKU SEJARAH MALAYSIA.

To all DSAI's fans, let's pray for him..hope that DSAI has better plan to avoid ISA!!!

Abdullah is the real threat to the country's economy. He discriminately manipulated the petrol prices and economic policy.

Knowing Badawi, it is highly possible that DSAI will be put under ISA soon.
His remarks are basically signals to Albar and the police..."You know what to do lah"...

Desperate people will resort to desperate measures, this I am sure.

When AAB said, "'He has become a threat to the economy and (national) security,"..

What he meant Anwar has become a threat to his family's economy and his own security.

Similarly,
what I do will be in the best interests of the people and the country."

He means he will do will be in the best interests of himself and his his family, not even the party.

It stinks to high heaven!!!! Hell,I dont know how long I need to wait.. i am desperately waiting for these crooks to be kicked out from office. The things they say nauseates me to the max.

What hit me more last nite was when I tried to put 2-&-2 together: One-AAB statement that he has a plan after alleging that DSAI is a threat to the economy and a possible threat to the nation as well. Two-AAB's taking over the Defence ministry. Not to mention the Chief Armed Forces making an unprecedented remark about the nation's "instability". I pray to God that He will protect and guide us all.

I agree the ISA should not be used as this is a political problem and not a security one.

The fact that the government may have to step down reflects its own incompetence; mainly at not being able to satisfy the economic needs of the people and also mismanagement of the economy.

Badawi has claimed that Anwar is a threat to national economy and security due to its lies (916 etc).

Likewise, I am sure that Badawi is also a threat to national economy and security ('no' petrol price hike, 'not' calling for election on Feb 13, etc.....)

It makes me wonder whether Badawi knows what he has been talking nonsense all this while!
