We Need Leadership

Anybody can claim to be a leader. A racial bigot. An adulterer. A corrupter. A sexist. A flip-flop. The list goes on. However, what we need are not mere self-proclaimed leaders.

We need LEADERSHIP.

Our race relations are broken. Our politics is distasteful and flawed. Our economy and those who help to run it are lost and misguided. Many things are not right about the country. Alas, many of us who hold the same pathetic view of our country take very different approaches to address the problems. Majority choose to bolt and many more choose to whine.

Malaysians cannot hide from the fact that we are governed by the ethno-religious conservatives who hold very rigid, selfish and perverted view on race relations. Many of these divisive politicians are very powerful individuals holding extremely important positions in the country.

These politicians will continue to practice their beliefs although we know they are part of the destructive force in the country. At the state UMNO annual general assembly, its members readily passed a resolution calling for the return of a racial bigot who was suspended by his party. The fact that the party does not hide from its hard, extreme right and conservative position worries me.

It worries me because they could be right about the society - that many of us are racial and religious conservatives who are still keen on supporting and rejoicing the most provocative statements and actions taken by them.

If not, why are these racially based political parties still in business? If not, why are morally bankrupt leaders are still being embraced by their party members to provide leadership?

Here, we need leadership not leaders. We need real and committed leadership which can help pull this society out from its racial mould. We need a leadership which can help to unite not polarize.

Our political system which insists on a two-tier society does not work especially if the intention is to seek racial superiority. A political system which helps to promote a false sense of superiority over others through the colour of skin is flawed and immoral. It is unimaginable for someone to be bought by the premise - no matter how convincing - that an airhead with the right ethnicity is the only requirement for success. Racial politics hurts more than it heals. Its over emphasis is self-destructive and demeaning to the very ethnicity it wants to glorify.

Here, we need a real leadership which can help us to see the humanistic values beneath our different skin colours. We need a sincere leadership which understands that diversity strengthens and not destroys a society. We need a leadership which understands the power of unity and not the sheer destruction of division.

Misguided and self-centred politicians should not be allowed to preach wrong economic policy to us. It is nonsensical to suggest that we need to prop up the stock market to enhance consumer confident to spend. When an economy is in trouble, a caring government should help to protect jobs, help to put people in their homes not losing them, create more economic opportunities and help to ease socio-economic pains.

Not putting more money in the stock market to assist less than 2 percent of the people who are engaged in it. People of all walks of life are feeling the same anguish of rising cost of living, job insecurity and mounting personal and family debt. From the anguish, perhaps we are able to feel how similar we are from each other. Through the anxiety, we should realise that our need is the same. We need a good and effective government. Not a patronising one. Not one which bullies its people with the power entrusted to them by the same people.

Here, we need a leadership which understands the mechanics of running a people friendly economic policy. We do not need leaders who are fixated with equity share of each community and not what they can put on their dining table for the children.

It is obvious that we need leadership, not leaders to fix a broken Malaysia.

Sad to see that how many of our leaders do understand the word "Leadership"? They can't even lead by example ! Leader Shit !

Well said Mr.Khoo.

I believe there are many Malaysians amongst the 26 million people out there who can provide the Leadership to steer the country through good and especially now, the bad times.

The problem lies in the system on how the PM of the country is elected. Just 191 division heads in UMNO who has that privileged to do so and also to be easily bribed. What a democrazy concept.

Until and unless UMNO/BN is taken to their knees, like what KL commented above, all we get is a bunch of corrupt, selfish and souless leaderSHIT.

NEED A LEADER?

Another worrying issues are the people itself. If you go into Chedet's blog, you will see many of the bumi's(these are common people voicing their opinion) are also thinking like these BN-UMNO leaders. So, the way I look at it, it is not just sorting out the leaders the only problem, the people's mindset is another hurdle. It is an uphill task which I think will have to start from school level. We need to have a schooling system that does not brainwash our young generations with all these racial thinking. I was totally flabbergasted and at the same time disappointed(and worried) after reading comments of Chedet's readers. Take a look for yourself at Chedet's blog.

When you talk to the Adulterer, he says

"My family has forgiven me, it was a long standing relationship, it is a private matter"
& Viola! He is re-elected!

When you talk to the Lying, Corrupted Politician he says

"Everyone also cari makan, we all share lah..& after all I am not stealing from you personally"
& Viola! He is re-elected!

When you talk to a Bigotist & Racist he tells you

"My rights are enshrined in the Constitution which yr forefathers accepted. I am Ketuanan. You are Pendatang. I have the right to take what is Legally & Lawfully MINE!

And if I give you 1 inch, you take 1 foot..then very soon I will have no feet left to stand on"
& Viola! He is re-elected!

So..if they keeping getting re-elected, who do we blame ??

And He who lives in Glass Houses should not throw stones? This is why we have few good leaders.. just who can we trust ??

Those very people who claim to be leaders are obviously not interested in leading the country. What they care about is how to amass personal wealth.
People joining politics do not intend to do something for the country but just ask how they can be made a super wealthy person.

When the so-called leaders are not showing good examples, how can we expect the youth to follow?

eh anon! (wink wink!)
You are shareholder of Air Asia issit?

If you ask people to go back from where they came from, then flights & ocean freighters going to Indonesia very full lah!

Then we will have no more PMs or ex-PMs because all of them are not really 100% kosher either

Social Contract? You find the term "Social Contract" in our Constituion ?

Plse show where you found the para stating this term.

btw my forefathers the pendatang arrived here in 1915.

Some VVIP's forefathers arrived here 1940.

Then a wave of "refugees" who became instant Msians arrived in the 70's & 80's ..

So who is covered in this "Social Contract" hah?

Very sorry..but hard to tell WHO is Malaysian & who are Bigots any more

What can one expect when so-called leaders of political groups are voted into power by money politics ?
You get half past six leaders who only know how to fan racial sentiments to perpetuate their hold onto power!

Again you choose to understand differently and confuses others. What is the main reason behind government action to inject billions of ringgit into the capital market?

Surely to bring stability and restore confidence in the market. Therefore foreign investors and also locals do not pull out their investment - that will probably prevent further FDIs into Malaysia.

Mr Khoo, government is doing its job to help the people, and you should too.

Khoo Kay Peng said...

Dear Jalan Bangau,

As supporters of UMNO, your economic reasoning is just that - misguided. Money flow into the stock market is hot money. They come as soon as they go.

Do you seriously believe that by pumping additional RM5 billion into the market will help to restore investors' confidence? There are other more serious indicators like the global financial situation, US economy and the extent of the contagion.

The RM5billion should have been used to help SMEs and local companies to keep jobs. I agree if the money is spend to upgrade our public infrastructure, amenities and facilities especially those showing sign of aging and deterioration. This will help to create jobs and small contracts.

Another saving point: UMNO should quite using your services. You are obviously incompetent.

The problem for majority of Malaysians is where on earth to find a country that want to admit that former PM of Malaysia , an old sly fox into their country? He is well known all over the world as the biggest hate monger! sigh....

The very notion that injecting taxpayers money into the financial market will somewhat restore investor confidence and turn Malaysia into a magnet for FDI; hence will shield a country from global financial problem is out of comprehension from economist's perspective, it is such a misguided undertaking and show how limited understanding of financial market work among ministers.

Mr Khoo,

It's okay if i am incompetent (at least according to your standard - and I appreciate the rating very much).

I can learn to improve myself (and my people too).

That is what live is all about.

Thanks for the comment anyway.
