PR Has Taken the Fight to BN

PR has nominated ousted chief minister Nizar Jamaluddin as the PAS candidate for the Bukit Gantang by-election on April 7. Nizar is a heavy weight and the right choice for the coalition.

According to Malaysiakini, in naming Nizar as the candidate, the opposition is turning the Bukit Gantang by-election into a referendum on the messy takeover of the Perak state government by Barisan Nasional last month.

This is a contest BN is set to become the under dog.

Earlier, PKR named the former member of parliament for Lubok Antu Jawah Gerang as its candidate for the Batang Ai by-election which is to be held on April 7.

Bukit Selambau is as good as a walkover for PKR. MIC is not expected to cause an upset in the by-election, largely due to its president Samy Vellu who was returned unopposed.

BN can expect tough contests in the three seats. Anwar has shown that he is serious in the candidate selection process.

Spot on.

But with Najib around and seemingly able to use the different government appratus at will, i think we may see a different level of dirt this time. RM500 million in KT and looses. This time, he will take it by the bulls horn.

I was hoping it will be Nizar. Yes it's also gonna be a referendum weather najib says otherwise. And when the result is out I hope it's gonna be a straight punch in the face for najib/umno and also to THOSE who doubt who what the Perak rakyat want.(Would it be too much to hope that the umno candidate lose his deposit also?)

For once no racist Malay bashing article from you. But the distrust has been so deep - tiger (or pig) never lose his stripe

PDRM's heavy handed action using tear gas and water cannons on a ceramah in Bukit Selambau has probably helped PR win this by-election. I was worried about PKR's choice of candidate in Bukit Selambau, but after reading about the PDRM's ruthlessness, I worried no more.

Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang are practically won. The tough one is at Batang Ai, a most crucial David vs. Goliath battle that will sound the death knell for Taib Mahmud if PR wins.

do not be too over-confident about bkt gantang. if everyone is aware that it is going to be a referendum, i am sure the radicals in umno know it too. they are going to pull out all the stops to ensure they win and win big. umno will get the perak sultan to campaign for them, use heavy police force like chemical laced water cannons to escort the ballot boxes to their final countdown etc etc. but that is if they cannot find a way to disqualify nizar in the 1st place. umno has everything at their disposal.
look at the pattern at the umno elections. if cannot win, just disqualify the other guy. the trend going forward is no e/r/ection, just selection by the top guy only.
