The 17-year-old French Indonesian model Manohara Odelia Pinot and her Kelantanese royalty husband is having a rocky marriage. The royalty husband must have had a rocky relationship with his Indonesian mother-in-law too.
On the surface, it looks like any other troubled relationship. But here, the mother-in-law said she had been refused entry to Malaysia to see her daughter, who was crying and distraught when Manohara (right) last spoke to her Indonesian family by phone from Malaysia on March 21.
Another funny thing is that it takes the intervention of an Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia to find out how the daughter was coping.
Indonesia's ambassador to Malaysia, Da'i Bachtiar, said he had spoken to the royal household in Kelantan and received word that Manohara was fine.
But they refuse to allow her mother to visit and the Malaysian Foreign Ministry has not replied to further inquiries, he told AFP.
Now, the story gets more intriguing...
Apparently, the Malaysian Immigration Department has lifted its entry ban on Manohara's mother from entering the country.
The department's director Mahmood Adam told Malaysiakini today that the decision was made on Monday following an instruction from the Home Ministry.
I have several concerns which need to be addressed:
1) This appears to me like a domestic tiff. Why is the Malaysian Immigration Department involved? On what basis the mother-in-law was banned from entering Malaysia?
2) Who gave the instruction to the Malaysian Immigration Department to deny the entry of the Indonesian mother?
3) Is there an abuse of authority involved? Can a royal family instruct the immigration department to ban someone from entering the country?
I find this whole situation fishy and worrying. It sounds like we are a pseudo democracy. No wonder there is talk that someone's immigration record was deleted. It does not augur well for the country.
The Home Ministry must probe this matter. It is supposed to happen in a fourth world country, not a country aspires to become a first world nation.

hi khoo
So do you think that if they lift this and that do they hold water?
sounds fishy to me too. but let's not leave any "bad" comments online, or else we might be "(you know what)". p/s: sounds scary too.
Malaysia is a fourth world country, so it's not surprising.
Wow... from internet gossip to conspiracy theory. getting more mainstream coverage from the trustworthy blogs.
i fear for all the pretty models who come here.
Here's another reason why we don't need monarchy system in the country. Mahathir was right to curb their power.
Who heads the Home Ministry? But then who is the Pee M....with their track record on humanity....it's not looking well for Malaysia...
Kawan, watch your back because "they" might make you disappear. Big Brothers are everywhere
Khoo,
You should have no illusion that we are a real democracy. What democratic govt can prosecute and jail Anwar on trump up charges of sodomy in 1998 with the connivance of the police, the A-G, the judiciary and the press?
Even if it can be forced through, what democratic govt can survive?
We've never been in a real democracy, only a psuedo one. The existence of the ISA underscores this clearly.
Malaysia will be lucky if Indonesia doesn't retaliate. The situation can just explode into an ugly foreign relationship with many uncertainties and implications that may affect ordinary citizens like you and me.
Some people think they are Lord everywhere they go without realizing that they are exposing another Malaysians in danger. A very irresponsible act that must be stopped and the government just cannot ignore and pretend nothing has happened. Let see how fast is our new foreign minister handle this issue. MEMALUKAN.
Again Royal Family! Has this got to do with the fact that they are so eager to dance to BN's tune? cos all of them has dirt in their close and BN knows about it?!
Wow. Hidden hands every where. There are laws for all and no laws for a few.
Malaysians do not shout "Malaysia Boleh" for no reason. This is another example of Malaysia Boleh. Apa pun boleh.
Dear Khoo
Our present home minister? Don't expect too much from a guy who's only accomplishment in his previous portfolio was to drive a wedge in race relations between Malaysians, by brandishing the keris.
Hmmm...wonder if he's going to take out Panca Warisan and waive it at the Indonesians...??...
How can things like this happen in Malaysia? This goes to show that the ruling elites desire to hold on to power is real - we read of such happeinings in Africa, we now see it happeining here in Malaysia. All this goes to show one thing is lacking - moral integrity, a lack of God consciousness.
Maybe the immigration dept is being compassionate. Wanting the couple to settle their difference without the interference of the m-i-l. Or maybe immigration dept knows how annoying a m-i-l can be!
Maybe from now, on all Malaysians can get help form Government agencies to stop their in-laws from kacau-kacau. Hmmm ISA not so bad after all!
something like the mongolian records missing from immigression.
This kind of thing (news) does not augur well for people like me who always have to travel to Indonesia and interact with the people there.
We maybe subjected to their backlash and they will look at us in a different way, just like the Indonesian karate coach who was assaulted here, we were told not to venture out freely. sigh!
If this is to happen in 1980s when Mahathir was on rampage against the sultans, all Media will be attacking the Kelantanese sultan. Now, they just kept quiet as they are potraying UMNO as champions of sultan. this case could not come at a worst time.
The country has gone to the dogs. A lot of Malaysians now are afraid to speak out loudly and openly even if the issues are true. They always look over their shoulders to make sure nobody is listening. Change must come now ...
Khoo, dont play a fool oh this type of thing cannot talk one oh...always remember we are lesser beings so pretend dont know anything and you will be alright
the pm and the royalty are working hand in hand the rakyat must fcuk this bastard out of malaysia hidup rakyat
There is one law for Umno and another law for ordinary Malaysians. Why are there no charges for:
a)Ahmad Ismail's racist outburst
b)A. Kugan's death in police custody
c)Umno Youth thugs threatening Karpal Singh in parliament grounds
In Perak the judges can step on the constitution to help BN hold on to illegally grabbed power.
Just look at the state we are in. And we dare call ourselves a democracy.
Not allowing Manohara's mother into Malaysia to visit her is against the ASEAN spirit. She is neither a wanted criminal nor subversive element, just an ordinary Indonesian citizen.
Anyway, a Visa is not required. She can buy a ticket and fly into KLIA. See what happens on arrival.
hi guys, the story goes from friends in Kota Bharu that Manohara is happy there - & its a mother/daughter tiff (jkt gossip -mother wants her to divorce & marry another richer indo guy??!) the mother has smartly used the indonesian press to her advantage.
& check out NST today for story on Manohara attending a wedding in KB.
unfortunately this whole drama is gonna be ugly for malaysians going to indonesia. Their hatred for us is now at an all time high. sigh
