UPDATE: No Royal Commission for Teoh Beng Hock?

The government has agreed to form a royal commission of inquiry to look into the investigative method used by the MACC. Apparently, the RCI's scope of work will not cover the sudden death of Teoh Beng Hock.

I would like to remind all Malaysians to be vigilant. The formation of a RCI is only a first tiny step. Justice for Teoh must still be served! Until then, the people must continue to push for the administration to do what is right.

If this RCI is going to end up with the other two, then expect no justice to be served on the family, friends and loved ones of Teoh. The administration should not see the formation of a RCI as the final solution to this crisis of confidence in the MACC and other public institutions.

Members appointed to sit in the RCI ought to be seriously scrutinize to ensure that they are capable of achieving a breakthrough in the case. However, like the RCI of Police Force, if the recommendations were ignored we will still go back to a square box.

To the opposition parties and PR coalition, I hope their leaders will not use the death of Teoh as a diversion to permanently ignore the need for the coalition to pull up its socks and correct their shortcomings.

Teoh would have wanted this two-party system to work. He was probably inspired by the 2008 general election outcome to offer himself as a political aide to a DAP state leader in Selangor.

PR leaders must not disappoint this young man who had lost his life so that others can live a life better than his. We must work hard together to ensure the future of his child is not as hopeless and senseless as the one we are facing now.

It is time for all Malaysians to question their own moral compass. Are we dignified and humane enough for being able to tolerate and condone racism, corruption, abuses of power, political arrogance, hooliganism and incompetence?

I hope the answer is NOT.

I thought the RCI is to look into MACC's investigation procedures, not to find out the causes of Teoh's death?

I think you got it wrong.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry is only to determine MACC's investigative procedures and to determine if there were any human right violations when Teoh Beng Hock was being interrogated.

It is not to determine the cause of Teoh's death.

So what is heck is this RCI for? What's the use when it is not to unravel a probably murder.

I have a feeling the Royal Commission is just a thick makeup to cover the ugly side. They will try to place their own man into the set up or ignoring the recommendation/proposal made, hopefully delaying the case as much as possible for it to cool down, then later forgotten which is undeniably a sad truth.

I heard that the Royal Commission is set up to investigate the Interrogating method used NOT the cause of the sudden death though which will be left to the magistrate. Maybe I mis-read something.

Sorry Khoo as what LKS says "There will be no Royal Commission of Inquiry into the causes of Teoh’s death although an inquest would be held.

A Royal Commission of Inquiry will be set up, but only to look into the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigative procedures and to determine if there were any human right violations when Teoh Beng Hock was being interrogated."

The Royal Commission of Inquiry referred to herein is only for the investigation on the interrogation methods used on TBH by the MACC right? There is no RCI to investigate TBH's suspicious death, no?

Anonymous said...

Did I read wrong. There is no RCI into TBH death but only to look into investigative procedures.

Anonymous said...

Your title is wrong. It's Royal Commission to investigate the MACC's interrogative procedures. It's nothing to do with TBH. His death is the subject of a mere inquest carried out by a magistrate who is a subordinate of the AG. The same AG which has been condemned one senior judge for fabricating evidence.

The RCI is only meant for MACC's "interrogation techniques", judicial inquest for Teoh's death...

Which basically means the investigation of Teoh's death is still tightly tied onto PDRM's hands, that belong to home ministry...

Hi there. The announced RCI Is ONLY to look into MACC investigation procedures..Not the DEATH of late Teoh.

I strongly recommend these distinguished honorable servants to be included in the RCI,what do you think Khoo?
Toyo,JJ,Bung,Tiong,Taib,Ling,Samey,Kaves,Koh,Ahmad Pendatang,Azalina,MM

Anonymous said...

mr khoo,

why does it exclude the events leading to his death?

because MACC needs to be protected?

Najib, you are just disappointing.

lets see who are the ball carriers willing to be on the panel of this farce commission?

We have been shortchanged by the cabinet with a RCI that will not investigate the cause of death. And inside the cabinet, MIC (S Subramaniam) MCA (Ong Tee Keat, Liow Tiong Lai, etc) and Gerakan (Koh Tsu Koon) all agreed?

Don't be fool by the Royal Commission of Inquiry!
It's not to find out the incident behind the Teo's death.

It's just to determine MACC's investigative procedures and to determine if there were any human right violations when Teoh Beng Hock was being interrogated.

This is how the govt play the word with the nations!
They thought we are all stupid!
Coming election, pls teach BN another lesson!

Another project by BN, another way to con the public. Well, it has worked for 52 years, look at the remote areas in Sarawak and Sabah, people still live in a substandard condition. BN sudah kaya raya, Rakyat hidup susah paya.

Why would he want to have RCI?

Would a killer want to have a fair investigation done on him? - CERTAINLY NOT.

this is as expected from this 2nd generation of kings (the 1st generation is our founding fathers, include tun razak, who mind you, are good leaders). they only want the good life to continue, and when they hear a little rumbling from the rakyat, just throw them a bone to chew on and everything will be quiet and life goes on. however, this works on the kampung masses who either are illiterate or only read the government controlled msm's. this con job cant fool the educated and well-read city folks.
this again, sadly i lost count at how many (probably 100s), another proof that the current umno/bn administration is never going to reform. like m bakri musa pointed out correctly, their current modus operandi is flowery packaging and public relations con job rather than substance or actual change.

what is sad about this benghock episode is, it will discourage talented and well-intentioned malaysians from joining the pakatan alliance. this is because najib has given a clear signal that his dogs will continue to hound and harass anybody related to the opposition. did he stop the polis from harassing everyone related to benghock and trying to entice them to give evidence to incriminate benghock? did he want to overhaul the macc? he only wants the RCI to improve the macc to be more efficient at covering up their dirty work after the fact, masked in the form of uncovering "proper interrogation procedures".

kkp, i am sorry to say that in this climate of fear, malaysia will never emerge from this feudal fiefdom and become a full democracy. will you lead a 3rd force to spread across the nation and educate the rakyat about the checks and balances of a 2-party system, and continue the legacy of teoh beng hock?

Look more like Royal Cover-up of Inquiry!

RCI set up to look into MACC investigative procedures? That we all know already. MACC procedures is no procedures! They are the taikos.

Beng Hock will never get the justice he truly deserves. Trust me. PM is only trying to please the rakyat and protect MACC.

Let the Royal Circus show begins!

the will to find the killer/s will be expended in the RCI exercise, at the end money spent, time gone, evidences lost, and still no one will be the wiser.

it has happened before it will happen again,.... and the collective memory of Malaysians would have moved on to yet another whodunit.

what a sorry state of affairs...
