Rich Man Toy - Malaysian F1 Team

Sepang International Circuit (SIC), a joint partnership involving the government and a consortium of Malaysian entrepreneurs for the 1Malaysia Formula (F1) One Team project, has allocated between 8,000 and 12,000 hectares for the development of the Made-in-Malaysia F1 team headquarters.

Ahmad Razlan said cooperation between SIC and AirAsia began a few months ago when Asia’s low-budget airlines boss Tony Fernandes told him about his ambitious dream to set up an all-Malaysian F1 team.

Since the government is a partner in this project, I have a few questions to ask PM Najib Razak.

  • How much of the taxpayers' money is involved?
  • How much is the cost to run the team annually?
  • What is the benefit or ROI for the people?
  • How many low cost houses have the government build in a year? An updated statistics would be greatly appreciated.
  • How can this involvement help to turn Proton around?
  • How many Penans are going to be benefited from the project?
  • How many hectares of land have been allocated to build houses for the poor? How many more Kampung Buah Palas incidents in the waiting?
Tony is a rich man. He was ranked No.15 (RM750 million) on the rich list of Malaysia. I am happy if he has found a way to amuse himself BUT on his own expense.

This government got nothing better to do ah? What about improving the efficiency of the civil service? What about spending the money to help improve public amenities and public transport?

I hope the decision to invest in the Malaysian F1 Team is not another contribution of the newly and expensively assembled PR team.

The government having a share in the running and maintenance of an F1 team! Is this another UMNO joke or what? The way I look at it, it is another scam to milk the country's and tax-payers money.

Looks like it hay making time in the next 2 to 3 years for these people.

Let's hope they don't make Malaysians lose face with their incompetence! I mean, they're trying to compete with international standard, the Malay-sian way.....

Dear Mr Khoo,

I hope the newly and expensively assembled PR team refered to is Najib's Public Relations (PR) team and not Pakatan Rakyat as may be misconstrued. Wink.

Boleh ma, we're in a bolehland. Everything is boleh one! But when it comes to implementation, everything is..... wait for the report before action can be taken. 1 year? 2 years? or wait until something like SELCAT starts operating.

what can yopu achieve with this project? This is the game of the rich countries. We are still a developing country and the land and whatever government going to invest can be put to better use.I hope this not the idea by the PR firm. If it is the AirAsia CEO,s idea then let him put up the whole finance and don't touch any of our government money. What the govrenment can chip in is selling the land to him but at market price.

I dont know why but everytime Tony has a grand plan with the government something smells fishy. Yes, how much of the so called investments needed comes from taxpayers funds?? Yes it a great PR stunt but to benefit who? Malaysia? or Tony?
I think Government should seriously look at the critical priorities on the jobless, needy and destitute who are all over malaysia. And dont 'run over' the penan issue please.

from my point of view, we can view this positively.. i mean, the government will increase their spending by creating this f1 team.. theres no doubt that some people have their own issues/interests regarding this thingy.. no policies are perfect, but they should be PERFECTED over time... my way of thinking is, by increasing government spending, taxpayers MIGHT need to pay higher taxes, thus causing msians to work harder.. (we assume that msians will work harder if tax increases).. by doing so, our national income increases, as we can consider this so-called F1 team as an investment (increase in imports and exports for proton).. and i think we (malaysians) emphasizes too much on poverty issues.. why would i want to pay taxes if the money goes to the street(we are talking about BULK percentages of taxpayer's money).. everyone is responsible for their own life, there is no such thing as "free lunch" in this globalized era.. correct me if im wrong, im open for comments and critics.. im just a student who is really interested in economics.. critics for development people... happy day everyone!

Sounds like Mahathir's plan rather than Najib's. His son is involved in F1, so somewhere along the line, that son will hop onto the board. This is Mahathir's grand plan from the beginning. Najib will take all the glamour pics, but Mahathir is driving the project behind the scene...

Just F1 driver. Do we hav F1 Driver in malaysia? Only Alex Yong few years back but ? result.

May be we can searh the talent from Mat Rempit !!!

It has been reported that the 1Malaysia F1 Team would need AT LEAST RM1billion a year to maintain!!!

And needless to say, a bulk of it would end up in some interested parties pockets!!!!!

And those are the rakyats' hard-earned money!!!!!!!!!

Satu lagi projek BN untuk cronies...

Sorry Khoo, but don't expect anything.

This joker has already earmarked RM500m of taxpayers' money for the ekuinas, and no one knows how this will be accounted for.

Sigh....another PKFZ in the making??

No,all of you are wrong. Its good to have as many Malaysian owned F1teams as possible so that the whole world will talk about it(Malaysia).Presently,we also have Petronas-Sauber + Lotus not enough. We shd have atleast 6 teams in F1 so that everybody talks about us.Now this strategy will sure work, nevermind the costs. The country will be well known in 1 year's time.

This F1 thing IS a goldmine for VERY selected few at the expense of all ordinary Malaysians; IS THIS JUSTIFIED? Where & What are the priories for the Malaysian society right NOW? Don't waste resources, time and energy on such unimportant projects. Shameless wastage BY THE FEW FOR poor Malaysia!!!!!!!!!!!!

So lets Race them to the abyss the coming GE !

Once it starts, Tony will only run it for 1year. (From this mornin news)

He's one smart cookie... Since it involves many people, better leave while the "going is still good" yah...!!

Next GE we don't know what's gonna happen...

Anyway, why do they "ALWAYS" have to play with tax payers money...??

I wouldn't mind if there's "returns" for me also....!

Can Fernandes and the Naza prince use their own wealth to play their F1 toys?? The poor malaysian public don't have the luxury of APs and government granted monopolies to gather the riches like you. The average malaysians need the government to use the tax payers' money to build more schools, universities, hospitals, non-tolled roads and provide the fund to deserving students to become doctors to cater for the medical needs of the country.. Malaysia is already on the world map and we don't need to glorified ourselves on the world map. Just remove all the racial and religious bigotry and open up to the world with no discriminative policies and people from all over the world will come and enjoy our warmness and beauty of this country. So don't fool ourselves that the expensive toy of F1 will bring glory to this Bodohland if all the racial and religious bigotry and discriminative policies are a daily pain to your own citizens.

Every year the government said not enough scholarship budget allocation, so limited places only available for our students. So many of our left out brainy students needed to take up foreign scholarships to study and signed agreement to work for their governments later.SUDDENLY,our government got huge fund to sponsor 2 FI teams (Sauber+Lotus)! However, our bright students still continue to beg foreign schlorship and we continue the brain drain, eventho' malaysia branding may become famous.I'm lost for words.

Tony wants to his dream come true, but pls do not drag our tax payer money in it as this is not a right time. Tax payer's money should be wisely use in more appropriate and urgent area, like infrastructure, poverty, education system, transportation system. This is another program like Space tour....

With RM1 billion, the government can buy thousands of computers for the benefit of the many hundreds of thousands of rural schoolchildren to upgrade their knowledge of computing.Education is the most important key to the development of a country. But this government is not interested in such programmes. It is only serious with such grandiose programmes like the F1. MALAYSIA BOLEH again!

Dear Sir,

Malaysia has never learned and will never learn. The leaders will be using the rakyat's money to amuse themselves in non profitable projects. "Pristage" is the key word and under that pretext the leaders can do what the fancy. There are many things that need to be done for the rakyat, pertaining to transpotation woos, education which is choas, public health and the list goes on and on. Many leaders, even the American President has been known to spend public money for wrong courses. Leaders should be made accountable and subjected to prosecution in any wrong doings with regard to spending public resources. Let there be a "special court" to prosecute these leaders after PRU 13, they must be punished.

70an, 80, event awal 90 an, Malaysia is nothing. Takda orang kenal malaysia. Nak kita beli kereta buatan Filipina? kalau kita beli pun, yakinkah kita?
