At the upcoming Hulu Selangor by-election, both Pakatan and Barisan would be put through a real test. Pakatan has a chance to find out how the continuous struggle, squabble and defections amongst its ranks are being perceived by the people.
Barisan's failure to capture the seat may add more pressure on Najib's leadership. Like his predecessors, Dr Mahathir and Abdullah Badawi, he has been making several reform pledges. UMNO and Barisan's decline was felt during the end of Mahathir's reign.
Abdullah tried to ride on a reform platform by was consumed and dethroned by his reform agenda.
However, I am sad to note that an enlightened leader such as Sivarasa is playing a race card again. PKR vice-president R Sivarasa said putting up an Indian candidate would be most favourable for the party in light of the constituency’s recent voting pattern.
“It will be most favourable to have an Indian candidate contest there from the winning point of view so yes I would be leaning towards that idea,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Sivarasa's argument is flawed and contrary to the non-racial/people's supremacy platform his party is promoting.
It is sad to note that PKR politics is about winning and capturing power. Race being put as the main criterion to select a candidate is most unfortunate.
The party should learn its lesson from the several defections. A candidate, as long as he/she is a Malaysian, should be appraised based on commitment, quality, knowledge and ability to serve the Hulu Selangor constituency.
Playing a race card against a race card is most unfortunate. Late Hulu Selangor MP Dr Zainal was a Malay and yet he defeated a strong MIC leader. PKR should show more confident in its struggle to end racial politics.
Why the regression, Sivarasa?

I had stated in my comment in Anil's blog of the statement by Sivarasa this morning.
I feel sick that a man of Sivarasa's standard would play the race card. In this instance, he should resign from PKR and join HRP. They will surely field an Indian candidate. By the way, are you representing HRP Sivarasa? You really had made such a huge blunder and please zip your mouth, think carefully before you speak in order not to spoil PKR's chances! Never really expected such a comment from PKR leaders! Are they not against racial politics? Or talk "syiok" only?
And there had been call from Manoharan for PR to field Uthayakumar. This is another stupid call. Uthayakumar can garner all 9,576 votes of the Indians, basing on a 80% turnout, but, can he win the election? Why must the Malays and Chinese obligated to vote an Indian candidate, and one hell of a racist like Uthayakumar? If Uthayakumar is fielded, 99.9% he will lose, as the Malays and Chinese will run when they see Uthayakumar, the racist! Uthayakumar was offered to contest under the PR ticket in 2008, just like Manoharan, but he declined, as he was not confident of a win! It is best that racists within PKR or PR keep their mouths shut, and let the leadership decide on whom they want as their candidate. Even if the candidate is from PAS, we will support him or her.
Supporters of PKR could not care what race the candidate come from as far as the candidate is a Malaysian and of the human race! Let Uthayakumar contest if he so wishes under HRP and the best he can get is 1,500 Indian votes, not a single Malay or Chinese votes! Whatever votes he gets will be at the expense of the PKR, but, it does not matter, as PKR as a multi ethnic, multi religious party must not be held by their balls by racist! We would rather PKR loses than to have its image tarnished! PKR is too big for Uthayakumar!
Uthayakumar and HRP is not for Malaysians! It will be political suicide if PKR fields or worked with him. Of the five ISAed Indian leaders three are with PR, one with Makkhal Sakthi, and the other is HRP. Just who is the leader of the Indians? HRP, Makkhal Sakthi, MIC, IPF, PPP and other Indian mosquito parties.
It would do Malaysians and Indians a whole world of good if we look beyond the race line. We need to work together to rebuild a truly united Malaysia to take on the challenges globally. Not only in Malaysia amongst ourselves! Can Hindraf, HRP take on Perkasa? Just ask yourselves this simple question! Bertaubatlah, Uthayakumar! You are damn selfish!
if you cannot win hulu selangor, what use ideals?
rice & butter before ideals. realpolitik before anything else. cruel to be kind. we are not buddha. we have not much time.
pakatan is pacing an evil and ruthless opponent and a not-so mature electorate.

The bulk of chinese voters would vote PR. The malay voters is 50/50.Dare we say the indian voters are 50/50 too ? The malay voters are slightly more than 50% in ratio compared to the rest of the race. So logically speaking the best candidate would be ?????Of course may the best person win, however is there even a BEST Candidate ? Next option would be base on race...sigh
