IGP Musa Hassan is a controversial man. His contract was renewed last year by the Home Ministry to the disappointment of many people especially the opposition and civil society.
Musa was infamous for ordering his men to stop political rallies, opposition gatherings and hauling up opposition members and their assistants for investigations which usually did not end up anywhere.
Musa's willingness to do such works was allegedly seen as the main reason for his contract renewal. This is not a healthy trend. The government should appoint IGPs from those who fall within the age limit and not those who have passed the retirement age limit like Musa Hassan. This gives an impression that we do not have any qualified candidates in the police force to be promoted to the top position.
Musa is not an ordinary and apolitical police officer. He knows the web of politics as well as the lines on his palms. When his tenure was expected not to be renewed beyond September and growing calls for his early departure, he reacted by alleging interference from powerful third parties. He could only be referring to those politicians in the ruling regime.
However, his reaction to the controversial killing of a 14 years old boy suspected as a robber was way out of bound. Musa wanted to pull out his force from patrolling the streets if "that is what the people wanted" is a call bordering a serious breach of duty.
If he was not scratching the back of some politicians, his head would have been chopped!
Musa's attitude is a microcosm of the larger picture. The people in authority and holding great power do not understand the meaning of responsibility and rule of law. They are not the law.
Musa is accountable to his clients and bosses - the public. He is entrusted to keep and secure public safety and not trying to defend some bad hats in his force. He has no business to accuse anyone of being unfair to his force before running a thorough investigation on what actually happened.
It is fair to note that the police are capable of committing crime too. The best example is the murder of Altantuya Shaaribu. Musa should stay independence and impartial. He should contribute to enhance the quality of his force. This way, his contributions would be better remembered and appreciated.
Musa is going to retire soon and he will fade into oblivion. His name and legacy will be viewed with a highly critical lenses. Musa's public image does not stand a chance under public scrutiny.
For what? Money and power? What's the use in his old age?
Musa should return justice to the souls of Altantuya, Teoh Beng Hock, Kugan, Aminulrasyid Amzah and thousands who died during custody.
Meanwhile, this government should stop defending the obvious. The rate the ministers and leaders from Barisan especially UMNO jumping in to defend the public institutions e.g. police force, Election Commission, judiciary and everything else seems odd to me.
As a government of the people, they should ensure that these institutions remained independence, fair, just and steadfast in serving the people.
Their current action cannot help but giving us an impression thah the regime is colluding with these institutions.
Hence, I would like to urge the government to keep a clear cut line between their administration and the public institutions.
I have to agree with KJ John that the IGP had acted in a distasteful manner.

MUSANG IS JUST LIKE A PIG BRAIN AND A COW HEAD. HE IS A BEAST AT THE POLICE FORCE SERVING HIS MASTER POLITICIAN AND ALSO THE UNDERGROUND MASTER.WHAT A DISGRACEFULL ANIMAL.PLEASEE RESIGN FOR GOOD YOU IDIOT!!!!!.THE RAKYAT WILL CURESE YOU FOR SURE.
Hey,
Straying from the main agenda here, I noticed there is poor command of English being used in this posting!
The word "independence" used is distasteful, hurts my eyes and perhaps raped the English language.
Wake up for professional journalism to be maintained
hey did you guys notice that anything that can be manipulated to tatter the image of federal government, public institutions, and organisations that are in his (racist) way are good for our Mr Khoo, including coming to the defend of a 15-year old boy who drove in the street - obviously without a license, who was warned by the police to stop driving and pulled over for check.
How sarcastic.
IGP says "If that's what "we" want...."
Hello! We want you to get lost long time ago oredy la....
Why you no do that??????
"That's what we want...!!!"
Do it!
Instead of seeking the truth & protecting the rakyat....
This feller is protecting the culprits. Very distasteful...!
A serious revamp is need for "ALL" sectors. The rakyat are dropping like flies...!!
We must have IPCMC.
This IGP is not a respected guy for me.He does not have the charisma of a good public officer but rather like a man talking in 'samseng' style. Always want to use his power to suppress anybody who criticise the police force,as if the police always do it the right way and any criticism or comment is seen as defaming them.
Money is God mah
Kiasu Ah Beng
I thought Najib is talking about reform changes, transparency and accountability, but looks like its just another talk but no action kind of thing practice by all 3 PMs.
Poll: What Is Your Opinion Of Umno's Constant Threat Of Another May 13?"
Nice post keep blogging,... Hi please visit my blog http://jabrasr.blogspot.com/
One word sums up all.Musa not oly knows how to scratch backs but good for holding 'blackmail'evidence against prominient people to stay afloat lah!Thats the name of the game
Bangau,
Only an ass would vote for your party. I did not defend an underaged boy driving without a license but I criticized the shooting of him for doing so.
The police did not try to pull him over. They worse and he was killed by their firearms.
I tell you this, UMNO cannot survive on the Malay votes alone. The fact is more than 40% of Malay votes will not return to UMNO. But more non-Malay votes are going to desert a party which has a member like yourself.
Bangau,
despite having 3 young kids of your own, you sounded so heartless and unable to understand the loss of the boy's family.
Keep yours safe. No one is going to sympathize with you.
I just hate the name UMNO - why need to refer to "Malay"? We CHINESE WILLING TO GIVE UP CITIZENSHIP if UMNO agree to deregister. Eg in middle east no immigrant can be citizen but can work to earn money. After all Malay dun need us as Petronas already the main tax contributer. Without chinese gomen will spend less anyway - no chinese school, no indian school, less housing need, no more temples , the list goeas on .......
Ps any incentive for us to leave?
Kiasu Ah Beng
Dear Mr Khoo,
Don't make this personal.
It is up to you how to take the issue. But for me there was no reason for the policemen to shoot the boy intentionally - especially when people like you keep harassing/intimidating the police from doing their job and misled the general public of the police responsibility, unless there some really weird or confusion happened during the chasing - which is all of us don't know.
Everything happened in the dark, 2 o'clock in the morning, the boy run from the police, the police tried to warn and even shoot the tyres already, chasing took place for kilometeres... and maybe police didn't event think that the dangerous driver who speeding in front of them was a young 15-year old boy.
i thinks when you blatantly blaming the police 100% for shooting the boy for driving without a license - i think you are trying to misled other to think that police is bad/evil/ ill judgment whatsoever... without presenting the real/full facts of the event.
Can you please re-iterate again what happened during the event (from the information available to the public) for your reader knowledge? Than we can judge whether the police shoot the boy for driving without license or for any other reason else.
Mr Khoo, I bag you please be responsible for what you write here. Please lead your readers to think with sense rather than with hatred.
It is because of people like you who destroy the image of public institution like the police force, young innocent boys like aminurasyid became paranoid of the police. Yes there are good and bad cops, same like the malays, chinese, indians, mat salleh, jews, because we all human. Don stereotype race with their attitudes/behaviour because that is very not true to do so.
Mr Khoo, again, think many-many time.
May god bless you.
To be very fair too all Malaysians and to the polis in response to musa's "If that's what "we" want...."
1- A new chief of police
2- IPCMC
Bangau,
You should do what you preached. Do not mislead the people and defend the public institutions blindly.
Your action will make people think that your party is colluding with these institutions.
You should have asked for a fair and transparent trial for the 15 years old boy and not MAKE YOUR OWN CONCLUSION. Were you there? You wrote like as though you were there.
