MCA President Chua Soi Lek has made several controversial decisions. He had backed the controversial decision to allow sports betting in the country. Coincidentally, Dr Mahathir had backed the same decision and cited gambling as a Chinese culture. This was an insult to the community.
Now, Chua backs Dr Mahathir's crooked bridge project. The MCA president has called on PM Najib to consider the construction of the bridge to fulfill the wishes of the people.
Interestingly, Chua is so concerned about the people's wishes. His political comeback could be something which may not be consistent with what the people wanted especially among the Chinese Malaysian voters.
The idea of building a crooked bridge between Malaysia and Singapore is a total diplomatic disaster. Any bridge between the two countries cannot be confined to a physical structure alone. It should consider the approval and acceptance of the Singaporeans too.
I would be surprised if the Singapore government agrees to the construction. Our intention to enhance the linkage between Singapore and Malaysia to improve trade and investment is a mistake. We should focus on soft linkages including diplomatic relations, people-to-people connections and business linkages.
Malaysia should focus on being more consistent and predictable with its foreign policy vis-a-vis Singapore. The two countries should start by building trust and mutual respect if Malaysia wants to see more investment from its southern neighbour.
Dr Chua should act as ridiculous as the attention seeking ex-premier.

Can all our distingushed politicians be a bit more prudent?Dont spend our taxes like nobody's business.If the country has way too much money idle,yes please by all means build whatever giant monument you heart desires eventho' it doesnt benefit the general rakyat.But here we are facing so many price hikes,subsidies cuts,low wages,2 jobs to feed our families and you guys dream of building something not urgent,not benefit the general rakyat but holidayers to Spore/Sporeans.Pls learn how to save when times are bad for us rakyat eventho' politicians dont face bad times.

Is MCA backing the right move(new bridge to replace causeway)? I agree d that MCA should focus their efforts on more pertinent issues,particularly that affecting the chinese community,rather than this project which is a gov-to-gov talk.Can MCA influence the S'pore govt to come to our side and agree to a straight bridge rather than a crooked one? If that is,then I am all for the new bridge.

If you are honest, hardworking, ethical and really care for the rakyat politician in BN/UMNO, you are as good as dead. Just look at the poor ex-president OTK. Actually,I have a bit of respect for his integrity, straight forward talking and daring attitude.
But, alas in the end he was thrown out by those unethical, greedy and corrupted politicians and their super duper rich cronies. To make matter worst, he was replaced by a super porn star whose words and actions of late are both controversial and unbecoming of a politicians claiming to represent the chinese community.
Seems like he has put a final nail to the MCA coffin.

Sorry Chua Soi Lek not all Chinese gambles nor accept gambling as their culture.
If you, as the leader of the so called Chinese community, please fight for the long outstanding issues like the fainess in education and more Chinese schools. Education and hard work are Chinese culture.
Get your priorities right if you sincerely represent the Chinese, else just shut up.

Only an idiot would believe that Mahathir is really interested to have a half-bridge to Singapore.He is more interested in the money that the building of the bridge will generate for the people best known to him.How many millions has the tax-payers money been spent to compensate the initial attempt to build the bridge? MCA is dead and gone like MIC/GERAKAN/PPP with the present bunch of greedy, unethical and uncaring attitude to their respective community. Rakyat is getting impatient and feedup aftyer all these years. Although PKR is not far better off, at least GENERALLY they are much better in terms of ethics, corruption and compunction.
