1Malaysia versus Bangsa Malaysia

I read Mahathir's statement on 1Malaysia with a sense of disappointment. He is a classic example of politician-in-denial and behaving like an 'ostrich'. A 1Malaysia concept which promotes national building, just and fair society, meritocracy and competitiveness is not a threat to the Malay Malaysians. A politician like Dr M is a threat to his own community.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today that Malays must continue to be given handicaps, while arguing that PM Najib Razak’s 1 Malaysia was a confusing concept which means different things to different people.

What did Mahathir achieve during his 22 years of premiership? Poor Malays remained poorer, a few Malays had grown into 'Superbumi-class' (to quote Sakmongkol AK47), the income gap between poor and rich Malays had grown wider during his tenure and after 40 years on NEP the Malays still need to be given handicaps.

If 1Malaysia can help to make Malays more confident and can cut off those who no longer need government assistance (esp. the middle and upper classes) in the next 10 years, it would have been more successful than Mahathir's tenure.

Is Mahathir afraid that his 'legacy' might be outshone if a policy focusing on building capacity of Malay community is allowed to continue?

He accused the Chinese and Indian communities of continuing to identify with their countries of origin, and argued that Malays would continue demanding special treatment as a result.

It is most ridiculous for an ex-PM to make such baseless accusations. Does Mahathir have any evidence to back his accusations? As an ex-PM, his allegation has destroyed whatever little credibility left in him as a statesman and a leader of this multiracial country. At least Najib had acknowledged the contributions of Chinese and Indian Malaysians for than 3-5 generations.

Writing in his blog, Mahathir said the Malays interpreted 1 Malaysia to mean the abolition of Chinese and Tamil schools and a “fair” participation of Malays and Bumiputeras in the private sector.

I am again very surprised with his interpretation of 1Malaysia. A campaign launched by Mahathir supporters and self-proclaimed pro-unity group, 1 Sekolah Untuk Semua, has attracted only 2768 signatures to date which is far off its target of 100k signatures. This campaign was launched in April 2009. On the other hand, more than 70,000 Malay students are attending the Chinese vernacular schools. Mahathir should apologize to the parents of these students on his senseless accusations which may deny their rights to mother tongue/vernacular education.

Participation for the Malays and Bumiputeras in the private sector has been fair and merit driven. This is reflected in Mahathir's next statement.

The Chinese and Indians, he claimed, interpret 1 Malaysia to mean an end to special treatment for Malays, the removal of quotas and the end to NEP-style affirmative action policies favouring Malays.

The former prime minister also accused the Chinese and Indian communities of preferring to be identified with their countries of origin, and this, he said, caused Malays to expect special treatment.

It is true that we demand the end of NEP which has been bastardised and abused by the ruling regime to benefit their cronies and proxies. We do not object help and affirmative action to help those needy ones or less fortunate - the real bottom 40% of the society.

We do not think that special treatment currently practiced by the UMNO led government is even right for the Malays.

Mahathir has put it very well below:

“I am not ashamed to admit that I cannot compete with the Chinese and Indian students when studying medicine. They had much better results than me and the other six Malay students for entry into the Medical College. Even at that time the British promised to the Rulers to help educate the Malays. I had my chance because of the affirmative action then. On pure merit I would not be a doctor today, not because I was not qualified, but my qualification was lower than others.

Let me ask you a question, whether you are a Malay, Chinese or Indian, would you trust a doctor to treat you if he has admitted that he was not qualified to study medicine in the first place?

The world has changed, the society has moved on...Mahathir should read the book, "who moved my cheese?" to understand the meaning of complacency.

It is a fact that the 21st century Malays must compete with the best in the world. Competition will find us. We do not have to look for it. Hence, a fair participation in the private sector and the globalised economy (where there is no affirmative action), the Malays will not enjoy any handicaps. We want and welcome qualified Malay doctors and not one such as Dr Mahathir. No wonder Mahathir had wisely chosen a career in race politics rather than medicine.

"One has to remember that the Chinese civilisation is more than 4000 years old. No other civilisation has lasted that long. Naturally they have developed a culture better able to survive under all conditions. It is my belief that if the percentage of Chinese in the United Kingdom for example is the same as in Malaysia, UK would be better developed than it is now. It is not surprising that the Chinese excel in developing Malaysia (for which they are amply rewarded).”

On the Chinese civilisation, I do not see how it can help to benefit Chinese Malaysians today if they do not work hard and smart to succeed in their undertakings. Where there are successful Chinese Malaysians, there are also thousands of mediocre ones, poor ones and unsuccessful ones just like Malay Malaysians if they do not work hard, take chances and build their own capacity.

Mahathir should learn one thing: there is no free lunch in this world. Fortunately for him and his family, this is something he did not have to teach his rich children. They were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Which one do you prefer? 1Malaysia or Bangsa Malaysia?

I for one never trusts a Malay doctor (except to accept panadol for my headache) because I am convinced he passed medicine because of tempering of marks and privileges like entering varsity due to the quota system.
Imagine Malaysia without the Chinese. Mahathir and UMNO will probably living on tress and wearing loin cloth.
And e won't have an Inland Revenue Department!

Khoo, one word summarized it all for TDM.He is useless and all decisions made by him is for his very own benefit and ego.Just take a look at the water problem with Singapore. He builds up the story that the tiny red dot is making tons of money by selling treated water back to Johore. It is a fact now,and the state is ashamed to release the stunning figure of losing millions every month in managing back the treatment plant.
This is Mahathir lah.

This senile, greedy, opportunistic old fart has already one and half leg in grave. He will die with his dirty big fouled mouth open. You can bet on this.
Ignore this old fart. Once PKR in power, he will be dead duck for all his greed and dictatorship.

Our beloved ex Prime Minister, please do not do more harm than you did to millions of Malays who had lacked behind. I know you still have great influence, please set those poor souls free! You had your time and now it's Najib's time. I beg you to leave Malaysia alone in regards to what's best for race relations. I have been reading your takes and there were more tearing down than building up this beautiful nation and beautiful people especially the Malays! Malaysia Lover

Khoo, why our country got so many stupid leaders who are still worshipped by many?Forget the baggage he's dragging,I sincerely think Najib makes a better PM than the last 2 guys who still want to steal the limelight.Of course everybody knows someone is waiting impatiently to knock Najib out when opportunity arises by contantly constipating Najib's plans. For starter,Najib & Rosmah speak much better English and articulate better than the past and future PM.Let's give credit where it's due.Unless and until PR Anwar takes over, I cant see any other capable leader in BN who can move us forward.

It is true ,at the private clinic I will check the Doctor's credential - If the doctor is a Malay I will not mind if he is a graduate from a foreign university even from Indonesian Universities which have reputable professors and practice meritocracy.
From MU OK if age of doctor is over 50 years i.e. passed in the 70's.
My own money so can be a bit choosy , better be safe. But I know those qualified doctor ( by mark up or special cases ) normally go for General practice only and will not specialize since they are forced into the profession by the Gomen.
It is useless to force those who do not want to be a doctor.

Khoo, this Mahathir is an Indian in disguise. He did not care for the Malays. As you pointed out, he created more poor Malays under his rule. He is doing all he can so that his legacy can be shield from prying eyes. Unfortunately for him, his legacy is already sealed. He bastardized the NEP, make the Malays dummer by not educating them corectly. Instead of teaching the Malays how to fish, he gave them fish. Now the Malays only know how to take care of themselved by receiving instead of earning it.

Dr. Mahathir is quite right to say that the Malays and the other races see 1 Malaysia differently.

He is also quite right that he did not have the best qualification to study medicine. In this situation, only the best should become a doctor because they are sometimes dealing with life and death situation.

I dont believe in 1 Malaysia unless it is spelt out clearly. From what I observed, 1 Malaysia by Tun Najib means Malaysia has only 1 standard policy. And what is this policy? It can means the Malays has 30% privilege forever, the distribution of wealth will be interpreted by him forever, the other races will have to share their wealth forever and beg for their entitlement forever etc and etc.

That means, there is only 1 school of thought.

I am saddened by some anonymous writers that said that they won't trust a Malay doctor. What a racist are you. On one hand you wanted a fair and equitable Malaysia whilst on the other, you don't trust a Malay doctor just becoz he is a Malay. Must be a crazy ape from Planet Mars.

Mahathir should not be taken too seriously. He is no statesman like Lee Kuan Yew. He is just another run round the mill politician.

All Malaysians, less his cronies, have suffered enough under Mahathir's rule. Let's not open the old wounds to hurt ourselves.

Dr.M's twisted logic. Remember the one about western countries compensating M'sia if M'sia does not develop and cut down it's rainforest to supply oxygen to the world? Classic MADhathirism?

Dr.M wants Malays to be forever having the inferior complex becos in another hundred years they are still behind other races by exact 100 years. He wants them to remain the prepetual "katak bawah tempurong".He thinks the rest of M'sia and the whole world owes the Malay race. They should receive free meals for the rest of their existence.

He is no stateman. The more he speaks ,the more he sound like a village idiot which we should ignore. He does not deserve the "doctor" title in front of his name.

Just ignore this old "bugger" for a few more years. But the problem is his die hard (also brain-dead ) fans are numerous in our society. They are the ones that need to wake up and accept the modern worldviews.Meritocacy and fair competition are the "in" thing.

In 1969, Mahatir said he did not need Chinese Votes to win Kota Star and he lost. In 1999, banking on his empty promises, Chinese voted for him and suffered to these days his suppressions and racial jabs which he enjoys with impunity
On 22 June 2003 he said he tried his level best to put every obstacle and impediment to halt Malaysian Chinese from progressing. He did, and, he had robbed the country by billions!!!
Where are we now?
This mad-man stated politic with flame of fury crying out Malay’s (but he is an Indian!) woes and inadequacies. 40 years later, he and his children become multi-billionaires and he is crying about Malay woes and inadequacies!!!
Does he really care about the Malays? How about the good and righteous Malays torn and shattered by him and he corrupted the police and the jury until they become laughing stocks today? He even called some Malays “se-ekor”!
PM tried his best to stir up sentiments of 1Malaysia. But this Maverick would distort it with racial slurs and upset PM’s effort trying to catch some attention off PM’s limelight.
He is bankrupted of ideas! Without racial card, what has he got to offer?
Now he has admitted that he got into medicine through affirmative action. He knows his own inadequacies but then why challenge LKY??? Stupid and ignoramus to the first degree!
We have grown. But he does not know that? He thinks that we still buy all rubbish and shallow thinking remarks coming out of his sick mind.
The question is: How long MORE we are going to tolerate this dinosaur???
Having mis-managed the country and wasting billions in gigantic constructions and ventures, he has caused all Malaysians to suffer even to these days and many more years in future.
A friend of mind often said,” When Mahatir is in the pot, what brew do you get?”
This man should be put on trial for all the evils he has done. Judge Ian Chin called him “an evil incarnate”. Right on the dot in his remark!
Sad thing remains,"WILL THE CHINESE AND OTHER MALAYSIANS EVER LEARNED?" from the past actions of this man???

Dr.M has a hidden agenda why he is playing the racial card game. Many things said by him are pointing towards disharmony, uneasiness and uncertainties for the nation. This is not right and unbecoming of an exPM. Maybe he has no choice but fend for his survival in the Bolehland he helped create.

Will the 'players' know their fate in the coming GE13?

Khoo,
May be you care to add up the total amount he squandered during the 22 years tenure as the P.M. of Malaysia not forgetting the amount he took from Petronas.
How come he did not acquire the 30% reserve for the Bumi when he was squandering so much ? Or were the 30% meant for himself only and above all as far as he was concerned he never considered himself to be a Malay but an Indian and as such the loots were never taken into account in the NEP.
Was he only interested to acquire for himself, his family, his cronies and his proxies the 30% meant for the poor Malays during those years ? With the kind of pro Malay policies he was implementing no one can understand that in the 22 years he managed to acquire only a few percents for the poor Malays only when he had openly admitted that nothing is impossible. He would have acquired the 30% during the 22 years as P.M. in the early years as P.M. with so many big projects being implemented in Malaysia by him. It would not need a small child to know that the bigger the projects so were bigger the 10% or more commission from these projects that he was and still is famous for.
Therefore it is stupid for the poor Malays to believe that he did not manage to do in 22 years. Above all he only enrich himself, his family, his proxies and his cronies to ensure their continued support to remain as Umno President in Umno and consequently as P.M. in the name of the Malays. Is that why he goes to London yearly ,on transit really , without fail, to the place where the ill gotten gains are 'parked' to audit the loots in his old age and retirement. in spite of his age, heart condition with two by passes when anyone else would have stayed home to play with the grand children and tend to the garden.
Just watch my words he will still travel overseas until he drops dead because he never trusts anyone else to audit his ill gotten gains on his behalf ! He almost did that during his recent trip to Melbourne ! Many people in Malaysia ,just like me wish he did, for his soul sake at least before he vomits more pollution and worse of all goes deeper into hell !
