Racism & Whither Malaysia

Dr Mahathir is not new to controversy. I had said that the ex-premier will only tarnish is already poor image and thinning legacy with more vicious statements and speeches.

In a speech on Tuesday, Dr Mahathir told Malaysians to admit that the country belonged to the Malays and that they had to accept the culture and language of the dominant community.

The former prime minister said that the country’s forefathers gave the Chinese and Indians citizenship because they expected the communities to respect Malay sovereignty.

"This country belongs to the Malay race. Peninsular Malaysia was known as Tanah Melayu but this cannot be said because it will be considered racist.

"We must be sincere and accept that the country is Tanah Melayu,” he said.

He also said the administration must be clear on what is 1 Malaysia.

Mahathir's speech shows why Malaysia is a state but not a country. How can Malaysia achieve greater success in attracting and retaining talents at home if this government continues to belittle almost half of its citizens? Mahathir was a president of UMNO and a premier of this nation. His position on this issue deserves an explanation from the current UMNO government.

I fear that many, especially those in Perkasa, share his view on Tanah Melayu. Perkasa and UMNO share almost the same membership base.

Mahathir, himself of an Indian origin, refuses to accept and respect the constitutional rights of all Malaysians to equal opportunities, safety and respect after being a premier of this country for more than two decades is a contempt of the federal constitution.

He had insulted the federal constitution for refusing to respect the citizenship rights of all Malaysians. Shouldn't Mahathir be brought to justice the same way the Sri Muda assemblyman is being charged for sedition?

Unfortunately, there is no rule of law in this country. Racism and race politics will destroy the nation's social fabric. It is sad that politicians in this country are more preoccupied with race supremacy, religion and monarchy than putting more attention on the state of economy and the need to reposition Malaysia in the changing global order.

Sadly, if the Malays in this country continue to believe in the flimsy notion of Malay supremacy being a protective shield of their existence and survival this country will not be able to change its course and will head for eventual destruction.

Yet, there is little done by Pakatan leaders to correct the notion and to reassure the Malays that a positive mindset change is the only way to secure their survival in the increasingly competitive global economy.

Many of us had hoped for a better start in the new year. I hope we will not be disappointed. Malaysians must stay focus on the agenda of change and reform. Without a real political reform, the whole nation is going to continue its slide towards a failed nation.

As for MCA, MIC and Gerakan, Mahathir's statement and their silence is the last nail in the coffin. It shows that minority race parties in Barisan are ineffective and irrelevant.

My father was born and bred in Malaysia but I am labeled as non-bumiputra. Mahathir's father was an immigrant from India but how can he be labeled as bumiputra. Is this part of the Malaysia Boleh syndrome.

No ! Malaysia don't belong to the Malays, period.
It belongs to the Orang Asli and the Head Hunters, and for those ignorant Malays, Orang Asli means Original People. It means they are the Original People of Malaysia !
Shenanigan Mahathir himself in recent times compared the Malays with that of the Brits in Australia.
He even had the audacity to say that the Brits first took Australia away from the natives to build their penal colony for their hard core prisoners far away from England originally. But now because of their dominance in politics they are calling Australis their own just like the pirates from Indonesia, calling themselves Malay. Unfortunately this shenanigan's grand father did not even come from Indonesia. His grand father is an untouchable pariah from Kerala immigrated to Malaya trying to get rid of that stigma. Just remember once an untouchable pariah no matter whatever you do to transform yourself and your descendants you will always be an untouchable pariahs ! The pirates from Indonesia can call themselves Malays but certainly the shenanigan cannot have that right.

You did not mention that more than half of Malaysia's landmass is NOT in Peninsula Malaysia, thus, not a Malay homeland.

Are these natives to "kow tow" to a Malay ruler?

There is something unique about the Malays like Ahmad Rejal. They may be highly educated but they think and speak like morons.
I have two children and both of them obtained A1 in Bahasa Malaysia in SPM.
They did better than many of their Malay classmates. But they,(both foreign university graduates) have left the country.

What about Tanah Dayaks,Tanah Kadazan Dusun, Tanah Orang Ulu and so on? Since the old ex PM talk about Tanah Melayu, Sabahan and Sarawakian should think twice and ask the BeEnd to fulfil the agreement of formation of Malaysia. Sabah, Sarawak, Malaya and Singapore form Malaysia as equal partner.

I read that it was not tanah melayu but TANAH CHIN. I ask historians to look into the matter and see if we can go to the international court and lay claim on this land which our fore father first touch base.

We will drive the pseudo malays from Kerala out naked.

why does an elder statesman say things to divide the nation?if he loved the nation n her people he should helped in the nation building process. From my observation as a senior citizen, i sensed this person is angry, resentful n bitter to utter such words, One must read barry wain book- malaysian maverick to understand the man.he studied medicine n graduated, therefore he is responsible for his achievements. similarly if one failed in the exam, one should also take responsibility, but in this case i see this person is blaming the whole world for his failures. what a wonderful spin n is carried by the media , while our leaders are quarrelling over petty issues, vietnam , indonesia, thailiuand, china, india are steaming ahead economically . where is the biggest automobile bub in asia/ is it in malaysia? certainly no - its in THAILAND- all the big car manufacturers HONDa, tOYOTA< FORD< NISSAN, GM are there , Where is PROTON? lossing millios again.please read LEE KUAN YEW BOOK- hard truths to keep singapore going. a small nation without water can progressed so far is testimony of how a good n clean govt is running the nation. can this be said of malaysia- clean n no corruption, our nation is in despair now, change now otherwise there is no hope here, dont cry for me malaysia or argentina

this mamak is wetting his pants as he sees events in egypt unfold. if malaysia follows suit, the billions amassed by his family may be forcefully returned to the state just like Marcos. thats his greatest fear and if race has to be trumped to ensure his family keeps the billions, so be it. and you can bet your last dollar he will continue to stir up controversies as a cover for his family to make a few more billion before he sees his maker.

Actually this grand senile is hatching a plan to hasten his son's ascension to PMship, with Najib only 50+ and if Najib stay for at least 10 years or so & then there is Hishamuddin waiting on the sideline, Mukhriz will have no chance lah, you have to agree that what this senile old man is doing is actually undermining Najib, so the sooner Najib being pull down, the better the chance is for Mukhriz

Only people who confine themselves under the coconut shell speak as if they know everything.

I speak and write as a true Malaysian in my National Language. I get along well with Malaysians of any origin or walks of life but I don't have to condemn others to claim that I am patriotic or more Malaysian than others.

Read the few hundred articles which I have written, all in Bahasa Malaysia here

I am angry as a voter because MCA has not come out to condemn this racist and the government has not acted against him for instigation. The government is practising double standard and is hypocritical

This old senile man who had tasted the best in life could afford, instead of being grateful, become a monster who is hell bent on tearing the races apart whenever little opportunity arises. My grandfather about his age is happily playing with his grandchildren and paying back to society in simple meaningful ways like helping the poor, visiting orphange home/old folks home spending time with the less fortunate, making greater friendship with neighbors of other races by giving his treasured organic grown greens, become more religious, always i wish all our greatest, overseas educated, rich proud politicians learn a thing from my old humble granddad on being a grateful and thankful human being in your last days.

Hello Khoo,
The last thing to expect is for CSL and KSK to stand up and rebutt TDM. Both only want to cover their own As first!!!

Illegal immigrants from Indonesia can be bumiputra...I think they know the ways well.. dont't ask me how. I do not know.

We Chinese and Indians, will never be a bumiputra... that's for sure. That is why we work our ass off so that our children can have better education overseas.

The component parties in BN. Forget it.
