Silly and Insensitive Zoy

Berita Harian apologises over the publication of the caricature regarding the tsunami and the earthquake in Japan in today's Berita Minggu.

"We never meant to make fun of the disaster which has struck the country, and we deeply sympathise and share in sadness with the people of Japan," it said.

Berita Harian's group editor Mior Kamarul Shahid also wrote on his Twitter account, reiterating their regrets and apologies over the oversight.

OVERSIGHT? Should we get Mior a new pair of spectacles?
Japan's death toll could climb to more than 10,000 and this newspaper can still afford to find some humour in one of the biggest tragedies in the 21st century.

INSENSITIVE is the word.

Stupidity is what best described Berita Harian's attitude.

As a Malaysian, I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences and apology to the Japanese people.

But Khoo, we cannot fault Zoy to the point he takes all the blame. Neither can we fault the editor as well!! After all they are only well trained Zombies who have been doing what they have been encouraged to do for so long.

They have ridiculed and been insensitive to their own fellow countrymen for so long. And this has been encouraged by the Home Ministry as well. Just look at everything that is being said over the Bible and Allah issue. do you think they are being sensitive to the feelings of Christians? No!

What about the desecration of the holy communion by two journalists from an Islamic publication? No censuring and apologies. Just excusing them for their oversight!! What bout the cow head incident? Hishamuddin is sen with the perpetrators defending them the next day.

Insensitivity is just plain ordinary game for these guys. they are encouraged and they are promoted for doing so. Perkasa supports them. Abim supports them and UMNO Youth supports them.

Tell me, how insensitive is this cartoon compared to any of the examples I have listed above? Just because it is the Japanese who are the butt of their present insensitivity, somehow this is wrong? So it is ok for them to be insensitive to Malaysian Indians and Chinese, Hindus and Christians?

If being insensitive to fellow Malaysians is ok, then we should be defending this cartoon as well!!
(Of course, personally I think it takes a bunch of idiots to have such a cartoon to be even conceived)

This 'ketuanan bangsa' attitude has nurtured into arrogance and insensitivity. So they only know how to poke fun at other's tragedy(for their amusement).

It has to be a Malaysian newspaper to bring attention to the world on their stupidity. No amount of apologies or excuses, which seemed forced and fake, will erase this act of cruelty.

There were many other incidents of sensitive remarks in previous editions. And there will be many more to come.

Do you think Berita Harian will make a similar joke if it had happened in Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia or Qatar?
When was this paper ever sympathetic towards the non-Muslims.

You said it well and I couldn't agree more. What this daily did has not only given your countrymen a bad name but at the same time, the issue has made us realised how some people are so insensitive enough to make a mockery out of another country's tragedy.
