A local Gerakan politician has warned Barisan Nasional that Perkasa’s political frolics would cost the coalition massive vote loss, especially among non-Malays, in the next general election.
Given the general perception that Perkasa is a ‘subsidiary’ of Umno, Baljit Singh warned that other BN component parties would suffer politically as they are seen as “guilty by association” with Umno.
“Component parties like Gerakan, MIC and MCA are going to be the innocent victims.
“These parties will pay a heavy price for Perkasa antics. The voters will punish component parties for being associated with Umno. Malaysians are sick and tired of this gutter politics,” he said.
The point is why would Baljit and his party choose to become victims? Being in the same coalition with Umno means Gerakan is part of the dangerous liaison with Perkasa too.
It is almost impossible for Gerakan to try to promote and market Umno and its brand of politics to non-Malay voters. In fact, Umno has been steadily losing urban Malay voters too in the last 15 years.
Malay politics is fractured and disunited. Umno leaders are upset with a lack of Malay unity. But they are the biggest culprits who had caused a division in the Malay community. Such actions, e.g. the use of thugs and Perkasa members to create fear and disruption is not going to scare the middle ground.
Baljit is right about Umno and its partners losing more support because of the use of violence and bigotry.
But the question is why would Gerakan continue to stay put in BN when it is obvious that the liaison is not helping the party's survival? Are any Gerakan leaders benefit personally for staying put in the coalition? Are there any personal interests?
If Umno and Gerakan cannot give Baljit a clear answer, why would Baljit want to continue being a Gerakan member and hoping to contest on a BN ticket in the next GE?

Well, first of all Gerakan is on the way to extintion,so they are clinging onto Umno.Hoping to win at least one or two parliamentary seats riding on Umno's coat tails.
Umno or no Umno Gerakan will score a big duck's egg this coming GE,making it history that for the first time since Chong Eu took Gerakan into Barisan,it has failed to win at least one parliamentary seat in a GE.
Politicians who peddle hate with religious and racial overtimes are not only the lowest form of lowlifes, they are also a serious embarrassment and a permanent source of shame to those associated with the religion or the race that they are championing.
In the eyes of the world however, the sad and shameful rhetoric and antics of the cowboy organisation, Perkasa, only serve to bring shame to all Malaysians – irrespective of their race or religion.
What's new? BN is a coalition dominated by UMNO. It never fail to amaze me why these partners of theirs are still with them...
Those demostrators put a big disgrace and insult to their race and religion by putting up demostration and stall right in front of people's private houses. Next thing harass their family members? Why DBKL or local council or mata2 allow peddlers on doing business on such areas? BTW, how do they declare their income and much income tax do they pay to Government?
Without UMNO, Gerakan will lose all seats (include 2 parliament & few state), especially Gerakan already lose it's ground, Penang.
Without UMNO, Gerakan can count it's final day very soon.....even now is same... so....how can Gerakan leave UMNO....Gerakan can only act like a small dog barking but still need UMNO feed them.....poor Gerakan.....
These Perkasa and Ikhlas are lappies of Umno.Running dogs will do what their masters ordered. No two ways.Afterall, lapdogs never offend the hands that fed them.
Umno has turn into a 'pariah' resorting to underhanded tactics sending their thugs to offend and threatened people who opposed them.Only morons would come up with such a moronic act. What if the other races were to sell roast pigs in front of their homes.
Then they will send out the goons in blue to watercannon, tear gas and baton charged the protestors. This useless regime must be voted and kicked out this GE.
